Philips Rolls Out Smart Telemetry Platform for Cardiac Monitoring

Philips has introduced a new telemetry platform to address healthcare challenges, including staff shortages and alarm management.

A crucial component of the solution is the next-gen Telemetry Monitor 5500, which provides a comprehensive, data-driven approach to operational performance and patient care for cardiac monitoring. Once integrated with the Philips central monitoring unit (CMU), the smart telemetry platform was designed to support a number of tasks.

Workflows can be simplified thanks to a redesigned compact, wearable monitor with a touchscreen and lightweight design, so patients can stay ambulatory while under continuous surveillance. Scalable smart telemetry monitoring expands the number of high-acuity beds on demand.

Tools that filter non-actionable alarms help create a calm healing environment. Data-driven decisions backed by retrospective monitoring insights help uncover trends in alarm activity, patient deterioration, and telemetry use. Mobile workflows that support “act anywhere” capabilities in the hospital network enable connected bedside coordination—for admissions, transfers, wave strip capture, and team communication.

Philips’ technology can monitor cardiac patients up to 30 days after discharge through Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCOT). MCOT can be used to monitor a patient after an in-patient stay or ED evaluation to transition patients into an appropriate care pathway.

Last month, the company released Transcend Plus, the next generation of its EPIQ CVx and Affiniti Cvx cardiovascular ultrasound systems.
